# Authenticate to Your GitHub Account

In order to get your first scans setup you need to authenticate to the Github account that’s associated with the repos you’d like to scan. In order to do that do the following:

1. Head to the projects tab and select “Create a New Project”
2. Give your project a name and an optional description
3. Once saved, select the hyperlinked project name and click on “Project Settings” in the top right corner of the card

Select “Authenticate” under the Github Authentication section and enter the credentials for the Github user you’d like to authenticate

1. Once authenticated head back into the project to add your first code repository you’d like to scan

And that's it! You are now ready to [connect to the repos you'd like to add to this project](/getting-started/setting-up-a-project.md)

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.codefortify.ai/getting-started/authenticate-to-your-github-account.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
